Kim Hossler is a certified art educator with a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from Penn State University, and a Masters in Special Education from Western Connecticut State University. She has always enjoyed creating, teaching, and communicating through the visual arts, from her career as a graphic designer, designing books and corporate communications for local and international clients, to her many joyous years teaching art to elementary school students. She began illustrating in earnest when she became a mom, and many of the characters featured on Homegrown Arts cards originally appeared in books and games invented for her two children. Her card designs first found a home at the local toy store, The Toy Tree in Sandy Hook, Connecticut, where they made their way to birthday and holiday celebrations throughout the community.
Kim shares her love of art by volunteering her time as a teaching artist with Sandy Hook Peaceful Arts. She still draws all night, a habit she developed in college, and is indebted to her patient husband and extraordinary dog for their tireless love and support.
Michael Hossler has been teaching children in public schools for more than twenty years. He has a degree in Marketing from Penn State University. He also holds a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Sacred Heart University and a Masters degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Bridgeport. His love of teaching is fueled by the energy he gets from his students and his own children. His business background has helped to market and distribute Kim’s artwork, first as art prints and now as note cards. He enjoys coaching basketball and baseball for his kids and their friends in his hometown of Newtown, Connecticut.
