A gingerbread house is the birdhouse for me
constructed of cookies and crunchy candy
with sprinkles and sugar so sweet and sparkly
a holiday home for my evergreen tree

Except its in need of constant repair
with the nibbles I take from here and from there
and pieces for friends, because it's only fair
as Christmas draws closer, to give and to share.

And that, my dear cook, is precisely the reason
to step up production this holiday season
the twelve days of Christmas, a sweet celebration
each day a new house to mark the occasion

And I'll make you proud as the generous host
but unlike the bluejays I never will boast
a feast for the feathered, those aren't mere words
because it is true that we all eat like birds.
