Homegrown Arts is a family business, founded by two teachers with backgrounds in illustration, graphic design, science, and business. What began as an effort to entertain and delight our children, quickly grew into a business creating greeting cards and art prints for family, friends, and neighbors in our hometown of Newtown, Connecticut. 

As an artist and a teacher, I strive to treat the animals and flowers featured in my artwork as characters in a story, rich with personality and context. I hope to convey my gratitude for the pleasure of knowing them, and my awe for the gift of their beauty. 

When I was growing up, conversations with my grandmother, a painter and a gardener, were punctuated with exclamations of “Look!”: at a butterfly, a new flower, the last wink of a sunset.  Every image I create, from sketch to painting, is an answer to her “Look!!!”, a faithful attempt to capture such moments in detail, an invitation to the next observer.

Most of my ideas come from walking in the woods with my husband and dog, with lots of stops to take pictures.
