Santa Mouse Greeting Card

Tis the night before Christmas and all through the house
just two creatures are stirring, S. Claus and S. Mouse
while he to the tree of the giants attends
I make deliveries to his smallest friends

The ones you'd prefer to pretend were not there
who dwell behind walls or beneath the stair
collecting with utmost discretion and haste
the tidbits and morsels you drop or you waste

Concocting their Christmas of patchwork and scraps
while you and your family take long winter's naps
never dreaming that Santa will visit them too
at Christmas, all creatures deserve something new

Like a miniature wheel of the finest aged cheese
that I'll slice up and wedge through their doors by degrees
and a cozy down quilt rolled up tight in a ball
that I'll have to be clever to fit through the wall

Then less rapid than eagles, I'll leap to the sleigh
that Santa's provided for me Christmas day
and I'm off in a flash to deliver the goods
to all the small creatures who live in the woods.
